Developing and co-ordinating the highly-successful Ligeti project
proved to be one of Van Walsum Management's greatest challenges:
new partnerships were forged, in particular the creative alliance
of an orchestra, a management company, a record company and promoters.
We replicated this in our project of winter 2001/2002 to celebrate
the music of outstanding Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg. His life-long
friend Esa-Pekka Salonen joined him
as Artistic Director. Once again the South Bank and Philharmonia
Orchestra were our valued partners. In addition to presenting a
wide and varied selection of music in concerts in London, Brussels,
and Paris, there were films, a 'Lindberg Lounge' where audiences
could find out more about his music, and many cross-art form collaborations.
Lindberg's music has been affected by Bulgarian 'throat' singers,
jazz pianist Uri Caine and the anarchic chamber group Toimii. Education
activity included a teacher's course, a Lindberg study day and a
special needs project in Belgium. |
