cultivating partnerships

Here is a selection of the orchestras that VWM is proud to work alongside:

Bach Collegium Japan

Since bringing Masaaki Suzuki and Bach Collegium Japan to Europe for their first major tour in 2006, VWM has established a strong profile for this ground-breaking ensemble, most recently enjoyed by the Edinburgh Festival this past summer. BCJ will return to Europe in 2011 and in 2012, as well as visiting China in 2011.

Mariinsky Theatre

VWM brings the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev to Europe for a major international tour during 2010, including multiple concerts in Paris, Cologne and Amsterdam.  VWM also has an ongoing plan to bring the Mariinsky’s unique opera and ballet productions each year to the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas.  After the success of Wagner’s Ring in 2007, the project continued with two ballets - Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Adam’s Giselle, and most recently, with Shostakovich's Lady Macbeth of Mtensk. In 2012 VWM is coordinating a major Asian initiative from the Mariinsky, including Japan, China and other destinations. Click here to read about our previous Mariinsky Theatre projects.

Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal

To celebrate its 75th anniversary year in 2009, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal under its Music Director, Kent Nagano, toured Europe for the first time in several years.  The pan-Europe tour included concerts in Madrid, Vienna, Paris and Luxembourg. The Orchestra returns to Europe in the summer of 2011.

Philharmonia Orchestra

A close relationship between VWM and the Philharmonia Orchestra gives rise to exciting and ambitious touring projects incorporating new ideas and forms of presentation.  With Esa-Pekka Salonen, the Orchestra has just recently ended its Vienna: City of Dreams project which VWM toured to many European capitals. Future plans together include a Japan tour, summer festivals in 2010, and projects in France and in Switzerland.
