THE MARIINSKY PROJECT

The Mariinsky Theatre, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, May 08

VWM, Ibermúsica and the Mariinsky Theatre have an ongoing partnership to bring the Mariinsky’s unique opera and ballet productions to the Teatro Pérez Galdós in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria which began in 2007 with Wagner’s Ring under the baton of its Artistic Director, Valery Gergiev. The project continues this year with two ballets - Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and Adam’s Giselle. Click here for more info.

 

VIENNA, THE BIRTH OF THE NEW

Philharmonia Orchestra:
Spring 2009 through to Spring 2010
An ambitious and high profile project which will focus on the development of the main composers of the Second Viennese School (Schönberg, Berg, Webern) and those that influenced them (especially Mahler) through a choice of their chamber and orchestral works, as well as their solo repertoire. The project will comprise seven programmes including Schönberg's ground-breaking and dramatic epic, Gurrelieder, and will visit cities in Europe (including London, Paris, Brussels, Madrid, Stockholm, Vienna), the USA and the Far East (including Japan).

 

75TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR
Kent Nagano / Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal: Spring 2009

VWM is organising a tour with Kent Nagano and the splendid and much recorded Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal in April 2009. Nagano became Music Director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal from the 2006/07 season and 2009 marks the orchestra's 75th Anniversary year. This will be Kent Nagano's first major European tour with his new orchestra and will attract substantial international publicity. Among cities participating so far are Baden-Baden, Barcelona, Brussels, Hamburg, London, Luxembourg, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Valencia and Vienna. The ambitious and wide-ranging programme includes Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with VWM artist, Viviane Hagner, and works to showcase the orchestra's versatility and virtuosity: Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique, Mahler: Das Lied von der Erde (soloists Klaus Florian Vogt and Christian Gerhaher), Strauss: Ein Alpensinfonie and Bartók: Suite from the Miraculous Mandarin feature alongside works by Tan Dun, a new work by Unsuk Chin (whose opera, Alice, Nagano recently premiered) and Debussy.
